Catastrophic Failure
Posted on October 22, 2015 | No CommentsHere it is on the ground. We posted a few pictures a while ago when this antenna was aloft. Since then we have removed it from the tower and replaces it with a new model. We couldn’t see the front of the antenna while on the tower, but now that […] -
Tower Maintenance
Posted on August 14, 2015 | No CommentsIf its vertical steel then it needs maintenance. Towers move under load and wind. If they were absolutely rigid then no work would be exerted on the structure an so no maintenance would be needed but that’s not the case. My high school physics teacher first enlightened me regarding the […] -
Hoist Upgrades
Posted on May 9, 2015 | No CommentsI added a power disconnect to the hoist today. It gave me a reason to break out the plasma cutter to make support structure. Melting metal is always fun. So is blowing stuff up bu that’s for another day. Next week I’ll be adding a current meter which will allow […] -

Mounting a Receive Antenna
Posted on February 12, 2015 | No CommentsMoving the receive antenna up for better reception seemed like a no brainier. Not the case here. We mounted the antenna at the top of an extended telephone pole only to learn that the antenna didn’t work at all. It turns out there is a lot of interference on the […] -
Show and Tell – Fun RF monitor
Posted on February 10, 2015 | No CommentsI found this piece of cool tech from Cornet. The Electrosmog meter, they cost about $180.00. Its fast and it works well for its size, but it is only for relative measurements. Many times that’s all we need. Personal RF monitors have drastically come down in price. I don’t know […]
